13 free website builders for business: make a website easily

Spread the love

Which free website builder for your business is worth choosing?

To tell the truth, there are several, but if you are a beginner, I recommend that you read this article well to the end, to avoid unpleasant inconveniences.

Today we’re going to look at 13 free website builders, but I’ll also show you a unique opportunity, especially if you intend to create a monthly income online.

The solution that I will propose to you will make the process of creating your first website even easier.

Also included will be free lessons containing not only the installation but you will also find other very important information. (SEO, how to profit from a blog etc …)

In the free package, you will have a WordPress.org site, which if you didn’t know it is considered the best (it’s not the free one [WordPresscom] but you don’t pay anything anyway)

Plus you also get hosting that matches perfectly with Google, therefore of enormous quality and very performing!

Tips and thoughts on a free website to monetize

You may have already tried a strategy to be financially free, but realized that behind it all is a website.

If you’ve already done some research, you’ve already figured out how many free opportunities there are to create a website or blog.

However, you don’t know what the best solution is.

Don’t worry, because if you have 10 minutes I’ll explain the main possibilities you can take advantage of, without spending anything.

As in all things, there are advantages and disadvantages.

I find the word free to be difficult to associate well with business.

What is free is unlikely to be perfect.

(EXCEPT for one exception which I will explain shortly)

Let’s see them together in a general picture.

  • No costs: you are online in no time.
  • It doesn’t take special skills.

  • The site is not your property.
  • You don’t have your domain.
  • In general, you need to upgrade to the paid version to unlock some features.
  • The hosting provided does not have sufficient uptime.
  • So many limitations!

If your purpose is to sell products online or any other type of business, I strongly advise against the free options for building a website.

If we take for example WordPress.org, known as the best CSM in the world, with the free version (WordPress.com) we are faced with many limitations.

One of them is the fact that plugins cannot be installed.

In most cases, with a 100% free website, you won’t get the most out of your project.

To be clear, you are unlikely to be able to build a highly profitable business with this option.

If you’re just planning to experiment with a site or consider it a hobby, these kinds of free solutions are perfect!

The opportunity I mentioned earlier is a worldwide popularity platform: WEALTHY AFFILIATE.

[maxbutton id=”63″ ]

Registration is very simple, fast and it does not require a credit card, 100% free.

After the first 2 lessons, you will get to the third where you will create a website with WordPress, which is usually paid, but with Wealthy Affiliate, you can get it for free and it is completely yours without advertising and constraints.

But WA doesn’t stop there …

See how simple it is to create a website with Wealthy Affiliate.

Just click here where the arrow is and in a few seconds it will be installed:

[maxbutton id=”62″ ]

You will be guided in choosing the name and market niche.

You will then be educated on creating content to monetize, by promoting affiliate products.

Always free of charge, you will have the plugins necessary for site optimization, (SEO) essential for positioning in search engine results.

Furthermore, you will enjoy the advantage of using a platform (Site Content) to write your articles. (It also corrects errors and grammatical structures.)

WA offers you a free subdomain without annoying promotional banners.

If you prefer to buy it, you can do it directly in Wealthy Affiliate in the Site Domain section.

Or you have the option to transfer one you already own to WA. (Don’t worry, everything will be explained. It’s that easy!)

If one day you decide to leave this platform, with a domain owned by you, the site will remain yours, without losing the work done;

you just need to find another hosting company and your blog or shop will be back online again.

The hosting offered by Wealthy Affiliate (Siterubix) is the best you can get for free. (In my opinion, it is on par with Siteground)

Excellent uptime that will guarantee you a constant online presence.

On the other hand, with the hosting of the most famous free site builders, you risk that your web space being idle for days, hours, or minutes.

The problem is that you may be penalized by the big G, losing not only sales but visibility as well.

Instead, with Wealthy Affiliate, you will never have these inconveniences!

(Obviously, this should interest you more if you’re aiming for organic traffic to your site, i.e. visitors will come via a Google search.)

Wealthy Affiliate offers all this because a good percentage of people who try the free service, switch to Premium. (It’s not mandatory)

FREE PLAN = 1 website plus 20 lessons aimed at monetizing their blog

(There is no time limit and you can use your site for free forever!)

Or you can upgrade to the paid version to access over 1000 courses, tools, tips, etc. )

WA currently comprises a community of approximately 1,500,000 members.

So you will understand that if half of the members upgrade to the Premium plan, the owners of the program will have a decent return of money.

For this, they will be able to afford to give this free opportunity to as many people as possible.

[maxbutton id=”49″ ]

  • It’s intuitive and simple to use, plus you’ll be guided through the site setup.
  • Modern design and customized SEO settings. (also for mobile devices)
  • The themes have modern graphics and animations.
  • You can change elements, such as images, text, and backgrounds.
  • The editor is very intuitive to use because you can drag any graphic element wherever you want.
  • No time limit for free Wix usage.
  • Possibility to create a multilingual website
  • Suitable for those who want to create a profitable business.

On the other hand, the DISADVANTAGES are:

  • The design of the desktop models changes in the mobile version.
  • Therefore, for the model to look good even on mobile or tablet, you will have to adjust them manually.
  • Once you have chosen the theme you will have to keep it forever.
  • The loading speed isn’t great
  • There is a banner ad that you can only remove if you upgrade to the “Combo” premium plan.
  • The domain is not yours with the starter plan.

2. Square Online

Overall rating: 4.7 out of 5:

Ease of use: 4.8

Storage space with the free plan: –

Option to upgrade to paid plans: YES (Professional, Performance, and Premium)

Additional features: e-commerce

Suitable for creating an e-commerce site, for implementing online restaurant orders, and more.

It may look very similar to Weebly, but once you get into the platform, you’ll notice there are new features.

Square is suitable both for those who already have a physical store that they would like to bring online and for those who want to build an e-commerce platform from scratch.

Being a Weebly software, Square is characterized by the same ease of use.

No special knowledge is required to open your first online store and start selling.

Square has few functional limitations in the starting plan, eCommerce option is free; the only flaw concerns the choice of modules.

There is only one default template, but you can customize it.

The editor is very simple to use, but it is not always customizable.

Don’t forget that you will also find a nice promotional announcement at the bottom of the page! 😂

[maxbutton id=”50″ ]

  • Integration of your shop with Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
  • Easy to use.
  • Clean, attractive, and modern design.
  • Square Online has very good uptime, but not excellent. In short, the site will be constantly online. Downtime is not exaggerated.

  • The free plan is only available for 2 weeks (Trial)
  • With the free eCommerce tier, you don’t have a fully customized store, because the Square name will be present in your domain.
  • Ads can only be deleted with the paid plan.
  • There are no built-in tools for creating a blog.

3. Weebly

Overall rating: 4.4 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.7

Storage space with the free plan: 500 MB

Possibility to switch to paid plans: YES (Connect, Pro, Business)

Additional features: blog, online shop.

Another great website builder, which has made a lot of progress lately.

Not only can you create sites with ease, but it also includes the features you need to create an eCommerce site, even with the free plan. (Available only in the USA)

You have no restrictions on the quantities of products to sell.

Keep in mind that free options always have limits, so if you want a serious online store you will need to upgrade to the paid version for these reasons:

  • Remove advertising
  • You have more features
  • You can sell courses of any training, in short, you can sell not only physical products but everything that can be downloaded with 1 click.

You can access the main functions very easily from the menu.

It features a drag & drop function that allows you to easily add images, contents, modules in an extremely simple way. (No use of code)

In the free plan, the annoying advertisement is shown in the bottom bar.

Instead, if you switch to paid subscriptions, you can get your domain and additional features for online stores.

[maxbutton id=”51″ ]

  • Weebly is very intuitive to use.
  • Free SSL certificate.
  • The online shop is well done and structured simply.
  • You have more than 40 themes, also optimized for mobile devices, with a professional and clean look.
  • Another positive note is that which concerns the optimization for search engines: title, URL, meta tags, customizable for each page.
  • You can edit the website right from your phone.
  • If you need collaborators, permit other people to have access to the editor.
  • The App Store is available where you can take advantage of other functions.

  • It is limited in the choice of models.
  • You can easily find other websites with the same theme as you unless you decide to buy one for a fee.
  • More limited customization features than the best competition.

4. Webnode

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.5

Storage space with the free plan: 100MB

Possibility to switch to paid plans: YES (Profi, Standard, Mini, Limited)

Additional features: e-commerce

Over 40 million users have chosen this website builder.

It is very easy to create a multilingual site with Webnode; the templates are clean but have small SEO gaps.

Backup and restore functions available.

Webnode allows you to build a basic eCommerce site for free, which all in all isn’t too bad.

You have 1GB of bandwidth and 100GB of storage.

Unfortunately, there is no App Store.

In addition to the free plan, Webnode offers additional paid options:

  • You can use your domain
  • Support
  • More web space available and 100 email accounts.
  • Multilingual websites
  • Professional email.

[maxbutton id=”52″ ]

  • The editor has been revamped and improved in recent years.
  • You shouldn’t have any particular problems using it as it is quite intuitive.
  • You can add the element you want to each page.

For example, if you have your product or service you can implement a document containing offers and prices that you have already prepared previously.

Or add images, videos, and so on …

  • The SEO settings are customizable for every single page as “tag” and “title”

  • Like all free website builder plans, storage space is limited.
  • The promotional banner is present in the starter version.
  • Little room for creativity
  • The free trial lasts 15 days.
  • No app store.

5. Webstarts

Overall rating: 4.3 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.5

Storage space with the free plan: 1 GB (and 1 GB of bandwidth) per month.

Possibility to switch to paid plans: YES (Pro Plus, Business)

Additional features: e-commerce, blog

It’s another great option because it offers a lot of tools, features, and an easy-to-use editor that you can customize to your liking.

The free version is limited, but you can upgrade to more advanced plans which offer more options and benefits.

The differences between an initial and paid plan (this happens in most website builders) are storage space, hosting, and available bandwidth.

Another difference is that with the free version you will never have your domain because in this case, there will always be written Webstarts:

The platform offers hundreds of templates and within the pages, you can reorder the articles as you wish.

With the Blog Manager feature, you can create and publish your blog posts, although you may feel a bit limited due to the difficulty in inserting images.

Also, the text formatting options are very simple.

Ecommerce is only available to those who upgrade to the Business plan.

Unfortunately, it does not satisfy one of Google’s 200 factors, considered among the most important in 2021, namely optimization for mobile devices.

From this point of view, I believe that Webstart needs to be updated quickly because the big G penalizes this factor and consequently your business could also be affected.

Simply put, you will have a site that is unlikely to make it to the top of the search results.

[maxbutton id=”53″ ]

  • SEO customization for each page
  • Simple to use the menu.
  • Drag the items wherever you want
  • Customization of templates also in the Starter version.
  • You can register more easily using your Facebook account

  • The support is not the best
  • You don’t have the SSL certificate with the free version (and the one that guarantees you a secure site).
  • The interface (where features and content are managed) is a bit outdated.
  • There is no optimization for mobile devices with the Starter plan – programmers believed it was a good thing, but now they will have to change their minds.
  • The quality of the models is not great.

For example, suppose that in a template chosen by you, you have a box where you will write your name or that of your shop + a photo…

This type of template (box) will be the same for all pages.

6. Webflow

Overall rating: 4.2 out of 5

Ease of use: 4

Storage space with the free plan: 10 GB

Possibility to switch to paid plans SI: (Basic, CMS, Business, Enterprise.)

Additional Features: Premium E-commerce.

It consists of a content management system, hosting, and a graphic design tool, which can be used even without the knowledge of the code.

The interface is not that simple and it may take you some time to learn how to use it.

There are 40 templates (themes) to use for free, then there are 100 more with the premium plan.

Webflow can be compared to a graphical editor because it is a simplified code automation tool.

In this case, a beginner may find it difficult to create web pages with this website builder than others.

On the other hand, an experienced designer or developer would greatly appreciate a platform like Webflow.

You can completely customize your site and put all your creativity into it.

However, it is a very good and complete tool that is capable of performing several functions.

[maxbutton id=”54″ ]

  • If you already have some programming experience, Webflow is one of the best free website builders of the moment.
  • Themes adapt to different screen versions, so there are no problems with mobile viewing.
  • You can customize the site without any limit.
  • You can see your work from the visual editor.
  • If in doubt, consult Webflow support. (University) You will find guides, in-depth video courses, and targeted information for the success of your business.

  • It may be more suitable for an advanced user, even if the developers have simplified the code as much as possible.
  • Connecting to social media can be tricky
  • The ad is present in the free plan, although I must admit it is not very visible.

7. IM Creator

Overall rating: 4.2 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.3

Storage space with the free plan: 50 MB

Option to upgrade to paid plans: YES (Premium, Pro, and Whitelabel)

Additional features: blog, e-commerce.

This platform aims to facilitate the construction of a professional website.

Having over 11 million users, I would dare to say that they have succeeded in their intent, even if the editor is slightly complex.

You can’t drag elements everywhere, but you have limitations, which according to the platform were made on purpose because they have already simplified some editor functions beforehand.

In addition to creating websites without difficulty, this process will also be pleasant, but at the same time fast.

The models are very beautiful and responsive (they will adapt to any device) with customization options;

There are more than 30 at your disposal and they are divided into different industry categories to meet the needs of many users.

SEO is all too simple because you can’t customize individual pages.

One of the most interesting plans offered by the platform is White Label because it allows you to unleash your creativity.

Unfortunately, this plan seems to be more suited to web designers with some experience.

For example, it is suitable for web design agencies that create different sites for their clients. (Here you have no limits, you can create as many as you want.)

Despite not being at Shopify levels, IM Creator offers the possibility of creating e-commerce even in the free version.

[maxbutton id=”55″ ]

  • The domain is connectable in all plans, both free and paid.
  • Many options to customize the elements within the templates.
  • In the free version, you have unlimited hosting and bandwidth. IM Creator also allows you to switch hosting companies.
  • Site optimized for Google crawlers.
  • The themes are visually designed very well.
  • The intuitive editor allows you to identify functions quickly.

  • Changing the look of the site on mobile devices won’t be that easy for a beginner.
  • The free account is only available to certain categories of users.
  • There are no guides on creating the site.
  • IM Creator downtime can negatively impact your site’s visibility.

8. Google Sites

Overall rating: 4.0 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.4

Storage space with the free plan: 100 MB

Option to upgrade to paid plans: No (Only Free Plan)

Additional features: integration of Google services.

This site builder is completely free, as there are no paid plans.

Perhaps the idea that it was created by the big G suggests it is perfect, but to be honest there are some gaps.

Surely the platform interface is intuitive and simple and integrates very well with the other services and apps offered by the platform,

  • Sheets
  • Documents
  • Calendar
  • Presentations
  • Charts
  • Forms
  • Analytics
  • AdSense

The themes instead are very few, (9) but highly customizable without difficulty; even the most inexperienced person in creating websites will have no problems.

Easily add any elements to pages, after which you can drag and drop them wherever you like. (However, there are some lines not to cross)

There is an advertisement that compared to other free website builders is very small and less annoying.

[maxbutton id=”56″ ]

  • You don’t need any technical or programming knowledge to create a site with Google Sites.
  • You can customize your domain. See how to do it in this Google guide.
  • Based on your design you can use an image search filter based on your theme colors.
  • Suitable for small businesses
  • If you have collaborators, you can allow them to log in to make changes.
  • You can place your ad on any page you want.
  • A site created with this platform also easily adapts to mobile phones and tablets.

  • You cannot create e-commerce or a blog.
  • It is best suited for sharing content; if you are serious about starting a business, I recommend WordPress.org or Shopify for e-commerce.
  • There are few themes available and they look a lot alike and you can’t customize fonts and text.

9. WordPress.com

Overall rating: 4.3 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.3

Storage space with the free plan: 3GB

Possibility to switch to paid plans: YES (Personal, Premium, Business, E-commerce)

Additional features: blog, e-commerce.

You’ve probably heard of it from someone or read some articles praising WordPress as the world’s most popular choice for content management. (CSM)

However, today we have to evaluate the free plan, which imposes limits.

To avoid confusion, you need to know that there are 2 versions:

  1. WordPress.com (the free plan)
  2. WordPress.org (paid)

Let’s say your intention is not to create a site to build an online business, but you just want to share information without any profit.

In this case, let’s say your choice is more like a hobby and you have no interest in appearing on the first page of search engines.

So WordPress.com fits your needs.

If, on the other hand, you want to create a solid and lasting business, WordPress.org is the most recommended choice, not only among the 2 versions…

…but it is the best and most used CSM in the world because you are sure to get visibility in search engines.

Let’s see the fundamental differences:

  • It is not possible to install any plugins.
  • There are no paid plans.
  • Limited support for themes.
  • The traffic (site visits) is not yours, it comes from WordPress.com
  • If you want to create a profitable business you have few options.

  • You get a high performing site, but you have to pay. (Themes, hosting, and plugins)
  • The traffic you get will be yours alone and will not depend on any network.
  • You can install as many plugins as you want.
  • Full theme support
  • Updates available
  • Many options for monetizing your site.

With WordPress.com it is very easy to create, configure, and manage a site even if you are not a programmer.

It is the ideal option for those who want a blog, equipped with many SEO tools.

In the beginning when WordPress.com was born. it was considered the best solution for starting and running a blog.

Subsequently, over the years the platform has evolved and you can create any type of site you want, including online stores, e-commerce, news sites, and much more …

Let’s now analyze the themes: well over 200 templates are available (not all are free) oriented both on a simple blog and a business.

Template customization is limited with the free plan, but most are suitable for mobile devices.

There is also a block editor, there are sections for creating pages and posts, others dedicated to managing comments, authors, and more…

[maxbutton id=”57″ ]

  • Ideal for blogs and small businesses.
  • The assistance is excellent
  • You can add a domain you already own.

  • The paid versions are not cheap
  • Only in the paid version, you have a wide choice of plugins that make your life easier, without having to intervene in the code.
  • There is a small banner at the top of the site. (Starter Plan)
  • Some claim to find other free website builders that are easier to use.

10. Jimdo

Overall rating: 4.1 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.5

Storage space with the free plan: 500 MB

Ability to upgrade to paid plans: YES (Website: Grow, Unlimited / Online Store: Basic, Business, Vip)

Additional features: blog, e-commerce

It allows you to create a business website, blog, or e-commerce site in 3 minutes, without being a programming expert.

It is suitable for personal and small business sites, for both freelancers, restaurants, small retail traders…

Ease of use is the basis of how this platform works.

The templates are very simple, customizable, and fit perfectly on mobile devices.

You can choose between 15 models, plus one blank.

Once the site is created, 40 page templates are available.

Jimdo Creator: is a clean and simple (drag & drop) editing interface with many functions. For example, you can drag items, resize, add content …

Jimdo Dolphin: uses artificial intelligence: based on some questions and an analysis of your social preferences, it proposes a design that suits you best for your website.

SEO: you have all the functions you need to have a site that meets the Google criteria: customizable on individual pages, title, description, URL, and sitemap generation.

SSL encryption is also used.

Jimdo, I would recommend it more as a showcase site to showcase your products like an online brochure.

[maxbutton id=”58″ ]

  • You will have no difficulty using this platform.
  • Ability to create a site from a mobile or tablet.
  • Mobile-friendly

  • For the online store, only manual or PayPal payments are available.
  • Models too simple and limited
  • It is not possible to integrate the newsletter.
  • You cannot sell digital products
  • Footer promotional banner.
  • The support is not the fastest, some claim to take up to 2 days to solve a problem.
  • Jimdo allows little creativity
  • There are no third-party apps.

11. Constant Contact

Overall rating: 4.1 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.5

Storage space with the free plan: 500 MB

Ability to upgrade to paid plans: YES (Email, Email Plus)

Additional features: blog, online store, email marketing

For its ease of use, it is considered one of the best website builders. Use artificial intelligence (AI)

You will be guided in the construction of the most suitable site for you, the name, the logo, and the main image.

It also offers a free hosting service.

You can customize all your web pages: from fonts, colors, images, links …

In SEO terms it is very good as it can load pages and fast.

The only flaw is that there is no support in this area.

The themes are well suited to mobile devices.

You can access free image galleries and this saves you time looking for them elsewhere.

Constant Contact is also a fairly efficient email marketing tool.

An interesting feature is that users who access certain forms will automatically be registered in the contact lists.

This way you can later send your promotional emails to all these leads that have been generated without any effort on your part.

You can create a blog, access analysis tools; then you will be able to keep track of the people accessing the site.

The eCommerce function allows you to create an online store.

With the free plan, you can sell up to 3 products.

[maxbutton id=”59″ ]

  • The Starter version offers many features
  • Automatic sharing on the social networks you use.
  • Simple navigation
  • SSL certificate
  • Models respond to mobile devices.
  • Good email marketing features.

  • The initial tutorial is not completely exhaustive and you may need to consult support or FAQs.
  • Poor design customization
  • With the free plan, you can’t have your domain and you can only sell 3 products.
  • The blog has limits. For example, users are not allowed to comment.
  • There are no categories.
  • Support, especially with the free plan, is slow.

12. SimpleSite

Overall rating: 3.9 out of 5

Ease of use: 4.9

Storage space with the free plan: 3 GB

Ability to upgrade to paid plans: YES (Pro, E-commerce)

Additional features: personal blog, online store.

The name has already said it all!

But I’ll tell you more, it’s so simple that the functions perform the bare minimum!

However, it is not to be thrown away, as there are several options, such as the Blog and the ability to sell products.

The most negative aspect that struck me most is the themes because they are too elementary.

Another flaw is that with the Starter Plan you can only choose from 15 templates and they allow very few customization options.

You can’t even upload images and videos.

When you have published the site you can change the layout of the theme, but you cannot replace it with a new one.

If you decide to buy a domain you will also be provided with 5 personal email addresses.

The navigation menu is very simple.

As soon as you access the home page you will also have indications that will guide you in the process of creating the site.

SEO is poor; if your goal is to position yourself on the first page of search results, SimpleSite is certainly not for you.

The editor surprised me because to add images or text just click add and that’s it.

However you cannot add elements wherever you want, but you have spaces to respect.

Also, I noticed that there are no side menu bars enabled for editing.

Note that there is no publish button because SimpleSite automatically saves and publishes whenever changes are made.

It may seem like a good thing for an inexperienced person, but it isn’t.

Usually, before publishing any article, we have to make sure that everything is okay and that there are no spelling mistakes, etc., otherwise, everyone sees them.

For those who want to sell products, the platform offers a free e-commerce version, where it is possible to sell up to 5.

If you want more tools, I recommend that you upgrade to the paid plan so that more features are unlocked in your online store. (Nothing great!)

Considering today’s 13 opportunities to create a free website, I wouldn’t recommend this platform to anyone.

Also, once you have “passed” the home page, you immediately see that the design is very dated.

It’s so simple and feature-free that even a child would be bored!

[maxbutton id=”60″ ]

  • The templates are optimized for mobile devices
  • The editor is childproof.
  • Suitable for those not familiar with technologies.

  • SimpleSite advertising.
  • No multimedia features for the Starter plan.
  • Sites created with SimpleSite may appear to be identical copies given the personalization limitations.
  • It is not suitable for those who want to build a serious and lasting online business.
  • If you want creativity SimpleSite can be frustrating, because it’s too restrictive.
  • There is an initial option when setting up the “Personal / Blog” site, but if you choose it you will be disappointed as there is no tool to create blog posts.
  • Design too outdated

13. 8b

Overall rating: 4.2 out of 5:

Ease of use: 4.7

Option to upgrade to paid plans: NO

Additional Functionality: online portfolio.

It is a fairly new website builder, designed for those who are not experienced in this field as no technical knowledge is required.

It is free!

The tools that 8b offers are simple and will allow you to create a professional site.

There are 18 templates available, and all of them have great designs that you can customize.

You can change the background, colors, add buttons, etc …

Before publishing web pages, you can view a live preview of the site.

Here too is the drag & drop editor which is undoubtedly the most loved by a beginner.

You can create a website from a mobile device.

You are provided with an SSL certificate and platform subdomain for free.

The latter is not mandatory; if you already own your domain you can easily connect it.

The sites are perfectly optimized for mobile devices and are compatible with Google thanks to Google’s AMP technology which allows your pages to load very quickly.

Integrations to image galleries, Google Analytics, and more.

[maxbutton id=”61″ ]

  • Create the site in 3 simple steps.
  • Unlimited hosting
  • It is free, there is no paid plan yet.
  • Sites created with 8b are perfectly suited to mobile phones and tablets.
